We understand that the word on the street is that the standard phone line is dead. Telstra talks of massively declining PSTN phone line numbers overall. But while the numbers decline for the carriers, its far from the truth for most business. While new phone technologies may have broken through with higher speeds and greater versatility, many business users refuse to give up the older technology of the PSTN fixed phone service . Here are the main reasons why there's plenty of life left in this old dog!
Australia wide availability – In some places, particularly rural locations, fixed phone service is the only service available.
Long-Distance Rates – Flat rates are easy to understand. Most feel that the plans and pricing offered by mobile and Internet providers are confusing or misleading, and prefer to keep safe using the phone line for long distance dialing.
Contracts – Most fixed phone services do not require contracts.
Directory Assistance – Many fixed phone users like being listed in the phone book. When you connect a PSTN line its tick a box to get your business listed. If you want to get a VoIP or Mobile number listed for your business you have to contact the directory company yourself.
Security – Hackers .... 'The bad guys' have a much easier time hacking or accessing information through computer data bases and VoIP systems than anywhere else. PSTN fixed phone services are a safer bet for those who keep their personal security a priority.
No “Dead Zones” – Particularly in remote areas satellite service can be patchy, this problem is not a problem common to PSTN Phone lines.
Simplicity – Some people just want to plug the phone into the wall socket. Funny enough there are still people out there just require a phone service for little more than dialing out and receiving an incoming call!
Nostalgia- Today’s technology has advanced so fast and is great for people raised in this fast-paced multimedia world, however many find the change and the speed of change uncomfortable, and prefer to stick with what they know works.
Simply put, it is the simplicity of the fixed line, the reliability and the security of the service that keeps its users happy. If you are a land line user you will be happy to know that the good old fixed phone service isn’t going anywhere any-time soon.
