TELSTRA DOT - MISSING BASIC FEATURES?
Previously we have covered the finances of using a Telstra DOT vs one of our Hosted PBX Options. Telstra DOT not good value
We were quoting a job this week when the client set us through an email from the local Telstra Business Centre . It went on to detail why DOT was not really very good, including that DOT is missing a range of basic features that realistically mean there's not much point in having a DOT phone system at all. Here's an extract...
All of the features are standard on most other providers Hosted PBX Systems. Our systems come standard with the following features plus many more....
This highlights again, the many reasons why SMEs should be looking at alternatives to Telstra DOT.
We are pleased to announce Telaustralia is now offering NBN Ready Phone systems from Yeastar combined with Yealink and Escence Handsets. The new systems offer a very affordable Phone System for business needing up to 100 Handsets and 100 Simultaneous calls.
For example we can do a NBN Ready 4 handset system with Voicemail, Music on Hold, Built in Auto Attendant for under $1000 hardware cost. At added cost the System can also take PSN or ISDN lines. PSTN can have up to 4 lines while ISDN can have up to have up 8 lines to allow you to run the system over existing technology in advance of the NBN being available in your area.
The system comes with a full range of Modern Phone System features.

While we are all waiting on NBN Co to release their business products, one question keeps coming up. What will happen with ISDN 102030 services when the copper is pulled up?
We think not much at all!
At the moment the majority of ISDN 102030 connections are delivered over a 2mbps/2mbps synchronous data connection and this will deliver up to 30 Channels. ISDN 2 Services are usually delivered over a 128kbps/128kbps connection on 2 copper pairs.
The ISDN Network Termination Unit is effectively a modem for the service with typically a Ethernet handover for ISDN 102030.
So making the leap to having a synchronous data connection over the NBN and utilizing it for an ISDN service, doesn't take much imagination. It may only require a change of NTU and some routing of the data service back to a Telstra or Optus exchange where the ISDN service is centered.
In the mean time its fairly safe to say that ISDN isn't going any where and at this point appears to have a fairly long future. The only risk we foresee is that ISDN channel rental is about 3 times higher than SIP trunks but SIP trunks don't have all of the functionality ad features of ISDN.

Our observations are the main reasons for going to Hosted PBX are lower purchase price, cheaper running costs and additional phone systems features such as the ability to seamlessly transfer calls to other sites. A emerging trend is clients in areas where the NBN roll out has commenced who want a Phone System that can run over an ADSL connection but is also NBN compatible.
Our experience in Australia is that due to the state of the copper network, the out comes running over an ADSL connection can vary dramatically. NBN and SHDSL Business Grade Internet connections in comparison, rarely have an issue. Running Hosted PBX over an ADSL on the other hand, can be effected by packet loss, drop outs and contention.
This is why we thoroughly test an ADSL connection where possible before proceeding with a Hosted PBX installation. It is not uncommon for us to say to a prospective client that due to distance from the exchange, ADSL speed or line quality, we don't recommend a Hosted PBX for this particular site. In these cases we usually recommend the client install a traditional PBX using PSTN or ISDN but equipped ready for VoIP phone lines or SIP Trunks when the NBN reaches the site.

SHDSL internet is a dedicated business grade data connection that removes the slow internet shackles that are killing your business.
Services start at 10/10Mbps upload and down load, right up to 80/80Mbps.
Aside from lower upload speeds, ADSL can either send or receive data packets. It cant send and receive at the same time. SHDSL can send and receive at the same time and this combined with faster data transfer rates makes all the difference.
If you are using ADSL for Cloud based applications such as Web Based mail servers, Google Apps, Office 365, Zero, MYOB, or Offsite and remote access then the ADSL upload speed will be a serious noose around your data flows.
By having a dedicated 1:1 connection (not shared with anyone else ...you get 100% of the bandwidth) and increased upload speed you get out of the restrictive environment of ADSL. SHDSL internet fixes this.
Many companies are moving to Hosted PBX Phone Systems and finding that sharing Voice and Data over a ADSL connection just doesn't cut it. SHDSL internet Fixes this.
Remote access staff complain about being unable to work efficiently when they log in off site. SHDSL internet fixes this.
Your offices are in an area with a congested ADSL exchange and you have daily slow downs with your ADSL Data flows. SHDSL internet fixes this.
The cost of your telephony, servers and support is going through the roof. You are looking at a unfied communications solution and want to use Cloud based apps but worried about the data costs. SHDSL fixes this.
Our SHDSL Business Broadband promotion has been extended now until Wednesday 26th September 2014 so get your orders in before then to take advantage of this incredible offer.
These SHDSL plans give you unlimited data over a dedicated 1:1 connection with no contention and guaranteed speeds. Both of these plans come with free connection on 24mth agreement.
SHDSL is perfect for Hosted PBX, Cloud based applications and companies that have staff requiring remote access
