BEWARE PHONE SCAM

Beware of a Phone Scam originating in Russia and the Balkans states. People get a call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft saying they have identified an issue with your computer saying your PC is causing corruption at the network level and they need to access it to remedy the problem.

They ask you to run certain programs in windows and read screen details back to them, information that allows them to log into and take control of your computer.

They then do one of 2 things. Go through your computer looking for information they can use for ID theft or advise you they can fix it immediately but as you are not covered by Microsoft software personal support program, they require a Credit Card payment to continue fixing the problem.

The credit card details are then used for fraudulent purposes.

Be assured no one from Microsoft or any other IT company are going to call you without you making initial contact.

If someone calls don't give them access to your PC, don't give them credit card or ID and ask for a call back name and number.
