TOP 5 INTERNATIONAL ROAMING TIPS

Its not good for anyone when you come home and find the massive International Roaming bill. Heres a few tips to help avoid a massive bill when traveling.

1. If you have a smart phone turn off roaming data. Roaming data is incredibly expensive and it will ruin your holiday to find those few days on facebook or emails while away have cost you a $1000 or more. Use WIFI when you need to access data over seas. When on WIFI you can get emails, use Facebook and free text message services like Viber for free.

2. Divert all calls to message bank immediately. This way the VM calls don't leave Australia and attract roaming charges and you can stop people leaving long winded messages which you then have to pay for.

3. Leave a Voice Mail Message to the effect " I am traveling OS and not taking calls . If it is urgent please send me a text". This way you can control the cost as a text is 5c and you can manage how many of them you send. Its free to receive a text while roaming.

4. If you have to make calls get a SIM card from the country you are in....much cheaper and there are pre paid travel SIMs around with discount calls back to Australia.

5. This may make some people squirm but consider leaving your phone at home and have a real holiday. Not a great tip for those traveling for work but its one less thing to worry about while traveling and if you leave the phone at home there is no chance of losing it after a night partying in Bangkok or Bali.

There is detailed instructions on saving money while International Roaming here.

$79 MOBILE PLAN COMPARISON - TELSTRA V OPTUS V TELAUSTRALIA

Today we had a browse on the Telstra & Optus websites and we compare our $79 Fleet Plan to the offerings on the Telstra & Optus Websites. The big carriers have 60 second billing increments which we estimate lowers the included call credit by approximately 25% when compared with 30 second billing increments on an average 2 minute call.

While it appears Optus offers the best value with the $900 included call credit, Telaustralia wins out with the 30 second billing increments and the inclusion of $2000 worth of call credit for calls to mobiles on the same account. Effectively $2850 worth of call credit. Optus includes the 1st 5 mins of calls to mobiles on the same account but after the first 5mins of the call, these call get charged at the Standard per minute rate. A Samsung Galaxy S2 handset is included by all 3 providers.

INTERNATIONAL MOBILE ROAMING TIPS

Going overseas and don't want to run up that big bill on your phone? Here's a few tips to save while International Roaming.

1...Do you really need the phone while OS? Leaving the phone at home is the cheapest option! If you do need to take the phone with you make sure you contact your carrier before leaving Australia to make sure International roaming is active on your phone.

2. International Roaming data is expensive... at $20.50 per Mb it doesn't take long to run up a big bill, particularly with the new range of smart phones and tablets and pads that are continually seeking data. Turn it off from your handset or pad and use WIFI where possible. If you do have to use roaming data try to keep it brief and then turn it off from the handset when done.

3. With International Roaming you also get charged for calls you receive (up to $5 per minute for incoming calls in those out of the way places like Ulan Bator  or Tierra Del Fuego, so if you want to remain in charge and save,  have your phone diverted to Voice Mail Unconditional. This way all calls go direct to your Voice Mail in Australia...way cheaper. Have a message along the lines of I'm out of the country and not taking calls, please text me if its urgent.

4. Use Text messages where possible. At 75c each as opposed to up to $7 per minute for outgoing calls its way cheaper and it costs you nothing to receive the text while roaming.

TELSTRA MOBILE USER GUIDE LITE

A friend using Telstra Next G service was complaining how hard it is to get simple instructions out of Telstra for using her mobile phone. She told me she spoke to 3 different people before she got her answer and was questioning why it was so difficult to get someone to tell her how to change the number of rings on her phone before it went to message bank.  We don't sell Telstra Next G mobile services because Telstra wont wholesale that product.....but we are happy to help out all the Telstra Next G users anyway.

Here's a couple of common problems ...

1. Change the number of rings on my phone before it go's to message service ....
* * 61 * 1 0 1 * * (number of seconds: 15, 20, 25 or 30) # the default ring time is 15 seconds.

2. You have gone a bit crazy and hit the wrong security code on your phone so you need a PUK code to get back in there ....Get my PUK code ....... call 125 111, or if you're calling from outside Australia, call +61 4 3912 5111. When asked for the reason for your call, say:  "I want my P. U. K. code".

3. Set up your Voice mail ...press 101

4. Change your voice Mail greeting.... 101 > then 3 > then 1

5. Forward calls from my mobile ..... * * 21 * (phone number to forward calls to, including area code) * 10 # then hit the call or send button on your phone.

6. Turn call forward off .... # # 21 * * 10 # then hit the call or send button on your phone.

We hope this is of help! If you are really sick of the lack of help you get from Telstra or Optus, while you are here why don't you compare our mobile phone plans with what you are on currently?

Android Mobile phones take the lead

Its seems that Apples ascendancy isn't going to be without its challengers. In the US in the 6 Months to August 2010 Android Operating System powered mobile phones (which includes the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S, Sony X10 Xperia and HTC Dream mobile phones) have taken the sales leads over Apples iPhone. 32% of Phones sold had Android OS, 26% Apple iPhone OS and 26% Blackberry RIM OS with the balance being made up by the rest of the available mobile operating systems.

http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/2010/10/05/android-continues-to-demand-marketers-attention-at-a-growing-pace

While it has taken multiple vendors to achieve knocking Apple iPhone OS off as the number 1 mobile Operating System, this says something about the Android Operating Systems rise in popularity and the pending launch of Google TV wont hurt sales at all.

Also in the the short future will be the release of the Windows Phone 7 devices. Industry experts are predicting that Microsoft will have looked very closely at their competitors in an effort to avoid a repeat of the no so successful Kin operating system. Initial reviews are saying the Windows 7 Mobile Operating system is even more intuitive than Android and Apple OS. In stead of static icons the windows 7 is composed of live tiles that move up and down the start screen based on how often they are used. The live tiles also update in real time so if you use face book for example the last post/contact will be sitting on the tile or you can elect to have the tile just display latest posts from anyone.

The tiles lead to hubs one being the people hub that holds contacts and social info, office hub that has  a range of commercial applications such as one note, office 2010 integration, word power point etc, Games hub which will allow X Box integration and uploads, Picture hub, Music & Video hub for music video etc and a store application with the now ubiquitous Music and apps downloads. Texting seems to be very fast and intuitive

Australia the handsets will be available as the HTC HD 7 and the LG Optimus 7.
