NBN PBX PHONE SYSTEMS - HOW TO FUTURE PROOF YOUR BUSINESS

I get asked about what will happen with my existing PABX Phone system when the NBN is rolled out.... heres a summary of my response ...

 The NBN is coming. You need to buy a new phone system PBX for your business. You are worried that what you get now wont do the job when the NBN is rolled out in your area and don't want your new equipment to go to waste.

What do you do?

Probably the best and cheapest option to to equip your Business with a Hosted PBX or IP PBX System equipped with SIP trunks

Hosted PBX systems run over an ADSL or SHDSL internet connection and that is essentially what the NBN is going to be. A very high speed internet connection that will carry your calls over VoIP. Hosted PBX systems are available now at around one third the cost of equivalent traditional PBX systems and make financial sense to take advantage of costs savings now. Most commonly used and reliable equipment is supplied by reputable manufacturers such as Cisco and Polycom.

There is one major caveat with buying Hosted PBX systems with current ADSL or SHDSL connections. The internet connection must be a good quality connection with decent upload speeds and low (preferably zero)  jitter rates.

If you purchase a Hosted PBX System without a decent internet connection you will be asking for no end of trouble. A poor connection will cause drop outs and garbled calls so its best to establish and qualify the quality of the connection with your internet carrier first.

AVOIDING SPAM & PHISHING EMAILS - TOP 5 TIPS

Recent surveys of ISPs have shown up to 85% of the email is distribution is Spam or Phishing emails. These Spam email effects everyone as they have the potential to clog servers, chew up CPU processing capacity and slow things down in general.

We recently had a very heavy Spam and Phishing email attack on our mail servers. We investigated and managed to get the issue resolved without too much trouble but the potential for serious mail delays to all customers email is there.

When we investigated we found around 50 of our customers email address's were targeted. The main reason we believe is that the targeted email address's mostly had their email address listed on their web site or on other publicly available forums. This is like hanging a very juicy bait in front of the spammers. Their web robots scan websites looking for email address they can target.

TOP SPAM AVOIDANCE TIP 1. The best way to avoid having your email address on your own web site is to have a Web Form on your site that doesn't display a direct email address.
For example ... http://telaustralia.com.au/ContactUs

Setting up a web form on your website is usually quite simple. Ask your Web Site Builder and they should be  able to advise you. A simple form should be 10-20 minute job.

TOP SPAM AVOIDANCE TIP 2.If you have to log in to a public forum that displays your email address we suggest you take an alternate disposable email address such as a Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo email address and use that for any public domain emails and this will avoid your regular business or personal email being targeted.

TOP SPAM AVOIDANCE TIP 3. When you sign up for a product on the web the temptation is to tick the box usually titled along the lines of "keep me informed of the latest offers". You never know who your email address will be passed onto especially if the site is hosted outside of Australia in a country that doesn't have quite as tight privacy laws. Tips 1,2 &3 ensure you don't get your emaill address on the spammers radar to start with

TOP SPAM AVVOIDANCE TIP 4. Make sure you keep your anti Spam Software up to date. Its simple but so many people dont.

TOP SPAM AVOIDANCE TIP 5. Use a Internet provider who employs up to date Anti Spam and Anti Virus filtering to prevent the Spam getting to your account in the first place. There is a good chance that you pay for what you get and discount providers will be trying to squeeze costs out of running their networks by not paying for the latest and greatest software.

By following these 5simple tips you should be able to avoid getting your email address in the sights of most spammers.
